WHITEWATER, WIS.—The Carthage College softball team faced UW-Whitewater (DH) in a non-conference bout at the Van Steenderen Softball Field in Whitewater, Wis. on Thursday. The Lady Reds got a pair of hits from
Danielle Koziczkowski in a 12-2 loss to UW-Whitewater in game one.
Ellie Bernero's two hits, and
Stefanie Guercio's complete-game pitching effort wasn't enough to propel Carthage in a 2-0 loss to the Warhawks in game two.

The losses drop Carthage's record to 13-13, 3-1 CCIW while UW-Whitewater improves to 13-7, 4-0 WIAC. The Warhawk's sweep of the Lady Reds also gives them a six-game win streak.

The Warhawks pushed two runs on one hit and one error in the second inning en route to a 2-0 lead. Carthage used that as a shot in the arm as they responded with two runs in the third inning, where
Ellie Bernero led off with a single. Koziczkowski engineered Carthage's two-out damage in the third inning when she registered a bunt single and stole second base. Juarez knocked in Bernero and Koziczkowski on a single to center field to tie UW-Whitewater 2-2.

The Lady Reds couldn't muster a hit from that point forward, but the Warhawks pushed across 10 runs in that span to secure a 12-2 victory. Most of Whitewater's damage occurred in their six-run sixth inning that was capped by Nikki Mikosz's three-run home run.

Reigning CCIWÂ Pitcher of the Week
Naomi Alonzo suffered the pitching loss for Carthage. Alonzo surrendered four runs (three earned) on three hits before Bernero and
Stephanie Bonaguidi relieved her for the remaining 2 2/3 innings. Koziczkowksi paced Carthage at the plate with a 2-for-3 outing. Bernero and Juarez also contributed a hit for the Lady Reds.

Guercio allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out four batters in the complete-game pitching loss for Carthage. She received three hits of support, two of which came from Bernero.
Madison Ganir tallied the Lady Reds' other hit in the contest.

Mallory's Klotz gave UW-Whitewater a 1-0 lead with a first-inning triple that knocked in Megan Schweitezer. Schweitzer drove in Caitlin Catino with an RBI-infield single in the second inning to push UW-Whitewater's lead to 2-0.

The Warhawks concluded the contest with seven hits, while pitcher Dani Biesiada struck out five batters and surrendered three hits in the complete-game shutout.

The Lady Reds will face Augustana College (DH) (Ill.) at the Carthage Softball Field on Saturday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m.
