KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Red Men dropped their final home game of the season on Saturday night to the #23 Illinois Wesleyan University Titans, 92-63.
The loss drops the Red Men to 12-12 on the season and to 7-8 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while the Titans improve to 19-5 and clinch a share to of the CCIW title at 12-3.
Carthage was led by
Brad Kruse and
Kienan Baltimore with 14 points apiece and
Derek Mason rebounded from a tough shooting performance last time out with 13 points on 5-10 shooting, including 3-4 from deep.
Everything for the Red Men took a turn for the worst midway through the first half as the game was tied 22-22. From the 9:18 mark, Illinois Wesleyan University went on a 30-4 run to close the half and build a 52-26 lead. During the stretch, Wesleyan hit 12-18 shots, including 5-10 from three and took advantage of poor shooting by Carthage, as the Red Men went just 1-13 and committed four turnovers.
The Red Men were never able to battle back from the deficit, which eventually hit 38 in the second half, before Carthage was able to cut it to 29 at the final horn.
For the game, the Red Men were limited to 40.7% from the field and just 23.8% on 5-21 from three, while committing twice as many turnovers in the game as Wesleyan, with 14.
The Red Men will return to action for their season finale on Tuesday, as Carthage heads to North Park University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
