BARRINGTON, ILL.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team continued their neutral-site trend with a Friday-matinee against Benedictine University at the Canlan Sportsplex in Barrington, Ill. The Eagles cruised to a 2-0 edge at the 4:52 mark of the first quarter, despite the Red Men holding an 11-2 shots advantage at that point. Carthage found the back of the net on their 12
th shot attempt, and didn't take their foot off the gas pedal in a 12-5 victory over the Eagles.
Brody Ilstrup and
Andy Szun each notched a hat trick for the Red Men in the contest.
Luke Seydel and
Ben Morgan each tallied a pair of goals for the Carthage offense, but it was
Andy Meyers who came up with another solid performance in the face-off circle. Meyers registered his second-consecutive 16-of-19 (.842) performance in the center circle.
Joe Poremba commanded the Red Men defense with four caused turnovers, while
Andrew Krom chipped in three. Carthage held advantages in shots (64-17), ground balls (45-16) and caused turnovers (15-4).
Penalties also played a factor as Carthage accumulated four infractions for three minutes. Benedictine suffered three penalties for 2:30.
The Red Men up their record to 2-0, 0-0 CCIW while Benedictine falls to 0-1, 0-0 MLC.

The Eagles converted on their first two shots of the contest en route to a 2-0 lead with 4:52 left in the opening frame. The Red Men got their feet underneath them when
Colin Poitras and
Andy Szun each tallied goals to knot the game at two goals a piece with 1:15 left in the first quarter.
Nick Wood gave Benedictine a 3-2 lead at the 14:26 mark of the second before Carthage's 9-0 run powered them to an 11-3 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. The Red Men outshot Benedictine 18-8 within the final 15:00 to help secure a 12-5 victory.
Zerik Rodriguez registered six saves in 58:35 of work in goal for Carthage, while Sam Senko turned away 21 shots in net for Benedictine.
Carthage will open their home schedule on Saturday, February 24 against Hope College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
