FULL GAME NOTES

THE GAMES

  • The CCIW women's basketball gauntlet will continue for the Lady Reds (3-2, 0-1 CCIW), who will challenge Wheaton College (Ill.) (4-2, 1-0 CCIW) in a road game on Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00 p.m. Elmhurst College (3-3, 0-0 CCIW) will invade Tarble Arena on Saturday, December 8 at 5:00 p.m.
  • The Thunder will take an NCAA Division III-leading 75 blocks and 12.5 blocked shots per game into Wednesday's bout against Carthage. Junior Jill Berg leads the country with 3.83 blocked shots per game, and ranks fourth nationally with 23 blocked shots. Junior Hannah Frazier is second in the nation with 3.17 blocks per game while senior Devin Kyler trails her with a third-ranked 2.33 blocks per game. 
  • Leading the Wheaton offense is Hannah Frazier, who carries 16.8 points per game along with 6.5 boards per game. Hannah Williams ranks second on the team with 10.7 points per game along with a team-leading 6.8 rebounds per game. Devin Kyler (10.0 PPG.) rounds out the Wheaton players averaging double-figure points.
  • Jordan Myroth rounds out the Thunder's balanced attack with a CCIW-leading 5.0 assists per game.
  • The Lady Reds will eye their first victory at Wheaton's King Arena since January 15, 2014, when they tallied a 77-69 decision over the Thunder.
  • The Elmhurst Bluejays' 15 offensive rebounds per game leads the CCIW, led by Lisa Logan's 6.8 rebounds per game. 
  • Lisa Logan and Kellee Clay each pace the Bluejays offense with 9.3 points per game.
  • Elmhurst opened their 2018-19 campaign with wins over Aurora (67-56) and Defiance (53-40) before they dropped back-to-back games to Wittenberg (65-45) and Chapman (64-54). They concluded their California trip with a 72-71 OT victory over Redlands on November 24, and came back to the Midwest with a 73-54 loss to #5 Chicago on December 1. 

THE COACHES

  • Kent Madsen (174-51) is in his ninth season as Wheaton head women's basketball coach.
  • The 2018-19 campaign marks Tethnie Carrillo's (116-130) 12th as Elmhurst head women's basketball coach.

THE SERIES

  • The Lady Reds are 27-53 all-time against Wheaton (Ill.).
  • Carthage sports a 56-18 all-time record against Elmhurst. 

LAST TIME OUT

  • Carthage dropped an 85-71 decision to #13 Illinois Wesleyan University on December 1, their lone game last week. 
  • Four players eclipsed double-figure scoring for the third time this season, led by Madie Kaelber's 19 points. Bailey Gilbert added two more three-point field goals to her resume en route to a season-high 15 points while Sammie Woodward and Maggie Berigan rounded out the Lady Reds top-scorers with 11 points apiece. 

RECORD WATCH

Bailey Gilbert now owns 197 career three-point field goals made, five shy of tying Haley Stercic's (2011-14) career record mark of 202. 

RAINING THREES

The Lady Reds lead the CCIW in three-point field goals made (52), three-point field goals per game (10.4), and three-point percentage (39.4). 

DON'T WASTE FREE OPPORTUNITIES

Carthage has taken advantage of their free throws, where they rank third in the country with a .808 (42-52) percentage. 

PROTECTING THE ROCK AND TAKING RISKS

Sammie Woodward leads the CCIW and ranks 21st in the country with a 3.00 assist/turnover ratio through five games. 

OR JUST PROTECT THE BALL

The Lady Reds have notched less turnovers than their opponent in all five games this season.

TALE OF TWO BLOCK PARTIES

Both of Carthage's opponents this week rank on opposite ends of the blocked shots spectrum. Wheaton leads the country with 12.5 blocked shots per game, while Elmhurst is dead last among NCAA Division III teams with a 0.3 figure. 

CARTHAGE IS...

  • 3-0 when holding opponents to under 60 points.
  • 3-0 when leading with 2:00 remaining in the contest. 
  • 3-0 when having more steals than opponents.
