FULL GAME NOTES

THE GAMES

  • A quick turnaround from Christmas is upon the Carthage College women's basketball team (6-4, 1-2 CCIW), who will compete in the 2018 D3Hoops.com Classic on Thursday, December 27 - Saturday, December 29 at the South Point Casino Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • First on the docket is Ohio Athletic Conference member Ohio Northern University (6-4, 1-4 OAC) on Thursday, December 27 at 2:00 p.m. (PT), followed by Centennial Conference foe #18 Gettysburg College on Saturday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. (PT).
  • Ohio Northern opened their 2018-19 campaign with a 5-0 mark before they dropped four of their last five OAC games. A three-game losing skid looms over a well-disciplined Polar Bears squad that carries the fewest fouls in the OAC with 137. Ohio Northern ranks among NCAA Division III's top-25 teams in defensive rebounds per game (31, 24th) and free throw percentage (.757, 23rd).
  • Senior Jenna Dirksen, who anchors the Polar Bears with 15.2 points per game, ranks 44th in the country with a .857 (30-35) free throw percentage.
  • Ohio Northern is two seasons removed from a 30-1, 18-0 OAC campaign that ended with a 76-66 let-down against Christopher Newport in the 2016-17 NCAA Division III Elite Eight.
  • Gettysburg has rattled off seven straight victories after they suffered a 74-69 loss to #9 Messiah in the 2018-19 season opener on November 13.
  • The Bullets are led by senior Emma Dorshimer's Centennial Conference-leading 177 points, 58 free throw attempts, 46 free throws made and 22.1 points per game. Dorshimer commands a Gettysburg squad that paces the Centennial Conference in scoring offense (67.1).
  • The 2017-18 season resulted in a 26-3, 19-1 CC record, which included the Centennial Conference Regular Season and Tournament  Championships, and a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament Second Round.

THE COACHES

  • Michele Durand (425-324) is in her 18th season as Ohio Northern head women's basketball coach.
  • The 2018-19 season marks Nate Davis's (151-70) fourth as Gettysburg head women's basketball coach.
