Lady Reds To Invade UW-Stevens Point on Thursday

FULL GAME NOTES
 

THE GAME

  • The Carthage College women's basketball team (5-4, 1-2 CCIW) will hit the road for the first time in 15 days on Thursday, December 20 when they'll face UW-Stevens Point (4-4, 0-0 WIAC) at 7:00 p.m. 
  • The Lady Reds will eye a 1-1 record against UW schools in 2018-19 after a 72-71 setback to UW-Superior on November 16. 
  • Freshman Amber Baehman has displayed her two-dimensional abilities throughout her young collegiate career as she commands UW-Stevens Point in points per game (14.8), rebounds per game (6.9), steals (11), field goal percentage (.552), blocks (3) and free throw percentage (.900). Baehman, whose .552 field goal percentage leads all Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players, heads a UW-Stevens Point team that leads the WIAC with 183 free throw attempts.
  • Dishing Baehman the ball is Carly Cerrato, who leads UW-Stevens Point and ranks fourth in the WIAC with 3.6 assists per game. Cerrato is third on the Pointers in scoring with 9.6 points per game while ranking second in the WIAC with 59 three-point field goal attempts. Brooke Geier nearly averages double-figures for UW-Stevens Point with 9.9 points per game along with 5.5 rebounds per game. 
  • The Pointers have started games slow in 2018-19 as they've been out-scored 235-267 in the opening 20:00, but have weathered the storm in the second half with a 293-254 advantage over opponents.
  • UW-Stevens Point opened the 2018-19 campaign with victories over a pair of Iowa schools in Dubuque (87-56) and Luther (72-69) before dropping three-straight. The Pointers suffered a 70-49 loss to #4 St. Thomas on November 25 before coming up short in a 77-72 decision against #14 Illinois Wesleyan on December 3. The Pointers led Illinois Wesleyan 72-70 with 1:08 left in the game before being victims of a 7-0 run within the final minute.

THE SERIES

Carthage owns a 2-5 all-time record against UW-Stevens Point.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Lady Reds' 1-1 mark last week included a 66-40 win over Cornell College on December 10, and a 68-59 setback to #8 University of Chicago on December 16. 
  • Bailey Gilbert was a force to be reckoned with as she collected 17.0 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game over Carthage's two games last week, which included her school-record 203rd career three-point basket against Cornell. 
  • Sammie Woodward displayed her two-dimensional prowess with 13.0 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game and four steals last week. 
     
1,000 POINT/RECORD WATCH

Bailey Gilbert, who now owns a school-record 204 career three-point field goals made, now carries 910 career points, 90 shy of becoming the 23rd Carthage women's basketball player to eclipse 1,000. Gilbert is currently tied for second in school history with Dani Ripkey (2009-12) with 505 career three-pointers attempted, 59 shy of tying Angela Beyer's (2001-04) school-record mark of 564. 

CARTHAGE IS...

  • 4-0 when holding opponents to under 60 points.
  • 5-0 when leading with 2:00 remaining in the contest. 
  • 5-0 when having more steals than opponents.
  • 4-0 when leading at halftime.
  • 3-0 when having more rebounds than opponents. 

IN-STATE HISTORY

The Lady Reds carry a 41-54 all-time record against present day WIAC members. 

RARE THURSDAY AFFAIRS

Carthage's only two Thursday contests this season happen to be their next two contests against UW-Stevens Point, and Ohio Northern on December 27. 

POINT OF RETURNS AND NO RETURNS

The Lady Reds hold a 3-5 all-time record in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. 

DECEMBER 20 BLUES

Carthage holds a 5-2 all-time record on December 20, which includes a 60-53 victory over Drew University last season at the Daytona Beach Shootout.
