DE PERE, WIS.—The back-end of the St. Norbert College Tournament pitted the Carthage College women's basketball team against Marian University in the third place game on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Reds secured third place with an 82-40 victory over the Sabres.
Carthage's defense held Marian to just 13-of-49 shooting, and benefited from their 10-of-23 figure at the charity strip. The Lady Reds collected a season-best 32-of-67 (.478) field goal percentage en route to four players eclipsing double figure scoring.
Madie Kaelber posted a season-high 17 points and four boards.
Autumn Kalis registered 14 points while
Sammie Woodward collected 11. Carthage's first double-double of the season belonged to
Maggie Berigan, who tallied 10 points and tied for a career-high 10 rebounds.
The Lady Reds improve to 2-1, 0-0 CCIW while Marian falls to 0-3, 0-0 NACC.
Lady Reds 82, Marian 40
Carthage held Marian to just 1-of-13 shooting throughout the opening 10:00, where they stormed to a 15-2 lead. The Lady Reds defense nearly duplicated that feat in the second quarter as Marian posted a 2-of-12 figure en route to a 35-9 lead at halftime.
Carthage outscored the Sabres 19-8 in the third quarter behind Kalis's seven points in the frame. The fourth quarter saw Marian register 23 points, but Carthage saw eight different players score fourth-quarter points to lock an 80-42 victory.
All 15 active Lady Reds saw minutes in the victory over Marian.
The Lady Reds will square-off against Calvin College at the Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
