Lady Reds Top Eagles and Pointers on Saturday at Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team picked up a pair of regional wins on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, defeating the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in five sets and the Pointers in four.

The pair of wins, which includes the second over the Pointers in eight days, improves the Lady Reds to 20-8 on the year, while La Crosse drops to 16-12 and Stevens Point falls to 17-15.

Carthage 3, UW-La Crosse 2
The Lady Reds found themselves up against the wall in the opening match of the day after falling behind the Eagles 2-1 through three sets.  However, Carthage took advantage of eight attack errors by La Crosse in the fourth set and battled back from a 14-12 hole in the fifth to take the match with a 17-15 win in the final set.

Megan Behrendt led Carthage's offense in the win with 19 kills to lead all players followed by Kaila Johanson with ten. Ellie LeCount had 42 assists and Behrendt, LeCount and Laura de Rosales each had a pair of aces in the win.

Andrea Kozak led the Carthage defense at the net with six total blocks and de Rosales had a match-high 27 digs to top the backline defensive effort.

Carthage 3, UW-Stevens Point 1
In the second match of the day, after exchanging the first two set, the Lady Reds pulled away with a pair of convincing third and fourth set wins, despite sloppy attack efforts by Carthage and Stevens Point, as both teams had at least 20 errors.

Despite the attack struggles for the Lady Reds, Megan Behrendt turned in the second-most kills in her career, rattling off 23 in the four-setter.  The 2017 all-region selection finished with the 23 kills on 38 attempts and just three errors for a .526 attack percentage.  The highest of her career with ten of more attacks.

Shannon Kebisek also had a strong match for the Lady Reds in the win, finishing with 15 kills and a match-high three service aces and LeCount matched her career-high with 53 assists.

Nicole Acton and Kozak led the Lady Reds at the net with four blocks apiece, while Linda Morton had three.

Rounding out the stats, de Rosales, Behrendt, Kebisek and LeCount reach tallied double digits digs in the win, with 16, 15, 14 and 12 respectively.

The Lady Reds will return home for their final regular season match of the season in a winner-take-all College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin showdown, when Carthage hosts Illinois Wesleyan University at Tarble Arena on Tuesday, October 30th at 7:00 p.m.  Prior to the match, Abigail McGowan and Katie Laio will be honored as part of Senior Night.
