Lady Reds Dominate Foresters in Home Opener, 158-81

KENOSHA, Wis. – The defending College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin champions, the Carthage College women's swimming and diving team opened their home season on Saturday at Koenitzer Aquatic Center with a strong dual performance against Lake Forest College, defeating the Foresters, 158-81.
 
Carthage tallied 13 wins on the day including both relays and 11 individual top performances.
 
Heather Walker and DeAnn Jones highlighted the Lady Reds day, as each collected a pair of individual wins and were members of each winning relay team.  Walked won both backstroke events with first in the 100 back [1:01.79] and 200 back [2:16.84].  Jones proved to be the fastest competitor in the pool on Saturday, taking first in the 50 freestyle [24.66] and adding a win in the 100 butterfly [1:01.80].
 
In the relays, Walker and Jones were joined by Mattea Arndt and Gianna McGuire in the 400 medley relay, where they took first [4:09.62], while Becca Rutkowski and McGuire joined the pair in the 200 free relay win [1:39.80].
 
Arndt and Rutkowski also turned in wins on the day, as Mattea took first in the 200 individual medley [2:18.42] and Becca won the 100 free [53.92].
 
The reigning CCIW Women's Swimmer of the Week, Jordyn Bloode, took first in the 200 free [1:58.93], as well as the 500 free [5:20.50], and Leah Boldt also won a pair of events, nabbing first in the 100 breaststroke [1:12.82] and 200 breaststroke [2:39.06].
 
Rounding out the wins for the Lady Reds on the day, Hannah Pearson took first in the 1000 free [11:21.02].
 
The Lady Reds will return to action for their first multi-day event of the season next weekend, when Carthage will travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan for the 2018 Calvin College Quad Invitational.  Action will start on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and continue with Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
