Pioneers and Bluejays Next For Lady Reds

FULL GAME NOTES


THE GAMES

  • The Carthage College women's basketball team (8-5, 1-3 CCIW) will face a Carroll University (5-8, 2-2 CCIW) squad that has won four of their last six games on Wednesday, January 10 at the Van Male Fieldhouse in Waukesha, Wis. at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Reds will square-off against Elmhurst College at Tarble Arena on Saturday, January 13 at 5:00 p.m.
  • Carroll, who began the 2017-18 season 0-4, owns a 5-4 record over their last nine games. This includes a 69-65 decision over Millikin University on December 9, and a 52-43 victory against North Central College (Ill.) on January 6. 
  • The Pioneers registered a 1-23 campaign in their return to the CCIW in 2016-17. 
  • Freshman forward Katie Rossetti paces the CCIW with 28 blocked shots, and 2.15 blocked shots per game. Rossetti also leads the Pioneers' rebounding efforts with 8.4 per game.
  • Brittney Wald (13.1 PPG), Rachel Van Sluys (13.0) and Rossetti (10.2) command the Carroll (Wis.) offense. Wald, a junior guard, was named to the 2016-17 All-CCIW Second Team. Van Sluys is also a member of the Pioneers women's soccer team, where she is a two-time First Team All-CCIW selection, and CCIW Offensive Player of the Year. 
  • The Elmhurst College Bluejays, who face North Park University on January 10, are led by Mikaela Eppard's CCIW-leading nine defensive rebounds per game, 153 rebounds, 10.9 rebounds per game, seven double-doubles, 92 field goals made, and .575 field goal percentage. 
  • Jasmin Bailey (12.1 PPG) and Kaela Jones (11.6 PPG) pace a Bluejays offense that averages 70.9 points per game. 

THE COACHES

  • Lindsay Schultz (6-31) is in her second season as Carroll (Wis.) head women's basketball coach.
  • The 2017-18 season marks Tethnie Carrillo's (150-121) 11th as Elmhurst head women's basketball coach.

THE SERIES

  • The Lady Reds own a 28-25 all-time record against Carroll, and a 54-18 mark against Elmhurst. 

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Lady Reds fell to Wheaton College 72-59 on January 4, their lone game last week. 
  • Morgan Harris tallied a season-high three, 3-point field goals made en route to a team-leading 11 points in Carthage's loss to the Thunder. Madie Kaelber (11) and Sammie Woodward (10) also recorded double-figure scoring while Maggie Berigan registered a team-leading eight rebounds. 
  • All of Wheaton's scoring in the contest came from their starting-five, which includes Hannah Frazier's 24 points. Frazier's 24 points, seven rebounds and two blocks helped her land CCIW Player of the Week on January 8. 

THE LADY REDS ARE....

  • 4-0 when they shoot .450 or better from the field.
  • 6-0 when they hold opponents to less than 60 points.

NOTABLE NCAA/CCIW RANKINGS (1/9)

Bailey Gilbert ranks 18th in the country with a .462 (30-65) three-point field goal percentage. Madie Kaelber's .881 (37-42) free throw percentage ranks her 21st among NCAA Division III Women's Basketball players. 

HOLDING OPPONENTS LOW

The Lady Reds have held opponents under 60 points on six occasions this season after they accomplished that feat eight times in 2016-17. 

KEEPING IT CLOSE

Four of the Lady Reds' five losses this season came within 10 points. The only exception occurred in last week's 72-59 loss to Wheaton College (Ill.). 

PUTTING UP NUMBERS

Carthage has scored 60+ points in all but one game this season. The Lady Reds were held to less than 60 points on six occasions in 2016-17. 

MILESTONE WATCH

Bailey Gilbert, who owns 155 career three pointers, is in fourth place on the Carthage all-time three-point field goal list. Haley Stercic (2011-14) holds the Lady Reds career record for most three-point field goals with 202. Morgan Harris currently ranks third on the Carthage all-time free-throw percentage list with a .796 (250-314) figure.
