#2 Maroons Too Much For Lady Reds

CHICAGO—The Carthage College women's soccer team invaded the Stagg Field Complex for a Wednesday-afternoon match at #2 University of Chicago, their first ranked opponent of 2017. The Maroons, who've surrendered two goals in six games prior to Wednesday, added one to that number with a 7-1 victory over the Lady Reds.

Chicago allowed just seven shots on goal before their bout with Carthage, and tacked on two to that figure thanks to Anna McHatton and Maggie Washelesky. Lady Reds goalkeeper Emily Furmanek finished the contest with nine saves in the complete-game effort while Washelesky registered Carthage's lone goal in the contest.

Carthage falls to 5-3, 0-0 CCIW while the Maroons keep their perfect 2017 season intact with a 7-0, 0-0 UAA record.

The Maroons registered a 2-0 halftime lead, thanks to five saves from Furmanek in the frame. Five different Chicago players tallied goals in the second half en route to a 7-0 cushion in the 77th minute.

One-of-two Carthage shots on goal in the contest found the back of the net. That occurred in the 80th minute when Washelesky notched her fourth goal of the season, thanks to an assist from Joanne Stanfa to narrow the score to 7-1.

The Lady Reds will return to Art Keller Field on Sunday, September 24 against Concordia Chicago at 3:30 p.m.
