KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team wrapped up their 2017 Carthage College Women's Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at Tarble Arena with a split of their action, defeating Alma College, 3-1, before falling to Concordia University of Wisconsin, 3-0.
The split sends the Lady Reds to 7-3 on the season as they finished the tournament 2-1. Alma concludes the weekend at 4-6 and Concordia's 3-0 run over the past two days moves the Falcons to 11-1.
Carthage 3, Alma 1
After dropping the opening set to the Scots, Carthage rebounded to sweep the next three sets for a four-set win [22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-21].
Carthage struggled in the first set hitting just .022 and committing 13 errors but the Lady Reds finished the match hitting .233, .286 and .395 in sets two, three and four respectively and combining for just 13 errors. Alma finished the match hitting .165 and hitting over .120 in just the fourth set.
Rachael Kisten set a new career high in the win with 18 kills on 36 total attacks with a .389 attack percentage and added three blocks to finished second on the team behind
Megan Fallert, who tallied six.
Luci Krenzke turned in match-highs in the win with 24 digs and three service aces.
Concordia 3, Carthage 0
The Lady Reds struggled in the final match of the day hitting just .043 in a three-set loss to the Falcons who outhit Carthage in every set for a .190 percentage in the win [25-15, 25-22, 25-17].
Megan Behrendt was the lone Lady Reds player to get in double digits in kills wit ten, while
Ellie LeCount led the match with 20 assists.
The Carthage attack stalled at the net however as the Falcons earned a 9-3 edge in blocks in the match with the Lady Reds being led by
Andrea Kozak with three.
Following the tournament, Kisten and LeCount were named to the All-tournament Team along with Katie Bush of Alma, Lindsey Casper, Kailey Erdman and Kelsey Kleba of Concordia and Emily Rohloff of St. Norbert.
The Lady Reds will now head into College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play next time out for Carthage as they open the conference season at home against Augustana College. The Lady Reds will host the Vikings on Tuesday, Spetember 19th at 7:00 p.m. at Tarble Arena.
