Lady Reds Fall In CCIW Semifinals To Titans, 12-6

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Carthage College women's lacrosse team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday, as the Lady Reds fell in their 2017 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Semifinal at Illinois Wesleyan University, 12-6.

The Lady Reds' season comes to an end at 11-6 overall and as the number-three seed in the tournament after finishing 4-2 in the CCIW.  Illinois Wesleyan improves to 13-5 on the season and will face Augustana in the championship game on Saturday.

Carthage grabbed an early 1-0 lead as All-CCIW second teamer Kendell Santin opened the scoring 1:47 into the game.

The Titans responded however with a 4-0 run over a five minute span to jump ahead of the Lady Reds before Mackenzie Day snapped the run with her first goal of the game at the 16:41 mark of the first half to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Maddie Griffin found the net for her first goal of the game and Mackenzie Day added her second before the half but the Lady Reds still trailed at the half, 8-4.

Griffin would add her second goal of the game and the 2017 CCIW Newcomer of the Year, Nicole Bowman, scored her first but it wasn't enough, as the Titan's prevailed behind a 4-2 second half advantage to defeat the Lady Reds.

The loss caps the careers of a trio of Lady Reds, Maddie Griffin, McKenzie White and Mackenzie Day, who will leave a lasting mark on the program.  Additionally, Griffin will go down as one of the greatest Lady Reds in program history with her name all over the school record books, including as the all-time career points leader which she set tonight with her two goals.
