ROCK ISLAND, ILL.—The Carthage College softball team faced Augustana College (DH) on Saturday afternoon in their fifth and sixth consecutive CCIW games, due to the string of cancelations the past week. The Lady Reds pushed their win streak to five games with a 3-1 and 12-9 sweep over the Vikings at Carver Field. Kayla Uhwat-Vicicondi's three-run, walk-off home run in game two propelled Carthage.
This marks the longest string of victories since Carthage's six-game win streak in 2014.
Â
The sweep gives Carthage a 14-8, 5-1 CCIW record while Augustana exits Saturday with a 7-13, 0-2 CCIW mark.

Lady Reds 3, Augustana 1
Â
Darian Pelsor struck for the Lady Reds when she led off the second inning with a home run to make the score 1-0. The Vikings knotted the game at one run a piece in the second inning when Amanda Ebert scored from second base off Haley Ruch's single.
Â
Kristine Herdegen gave Carthage the lead for good in the third inning when she doubled, and scored when
Brooke Sefcik reached on an error to make the score 2-1. Sefcik put the icing on the cake with a home run to push the Lady Reds' cushion to 3-1.

Carthage pitcher
Katie Herron surrendered six hits, one earned run and struck out seven batters in the complete-game victory.
Vivian Juarez paced the Lady Reds' offense with a two-for-three day at the dish. Six other Lady Reds contributed hits in the game, which included home runs from Sefcik and Herdegen.

Â
Eight Vikings reached base in the first inning, which paved the way for their 5-0 advantage. Five Lady Reds reached base with two outs in the bottom of the first inning, which helped chip away at their deficit with three runs. Herdegen (walk), Pelsor (double) and Sefcik (walk) set things up when they loaded the bases.
Â
Lauren Jones and
Hailey Rothstein followed through with back-to-back RBI singles to narrow the score to 5-3. Jones' single knocked in Herdegen while Rothstein's hit scored Sefcik and Pelsor.
Â
Two Augustana fielding errors resulted in a pair of Carthage base runners to begin the second inning. That second miscue resulted in
Shannon Walsh's run, who reached on an error, to narrow Carthage's deficit to 5-4. Herdegen's double plated Uhwat, who walked, to tie the game 5-5. Juarez, who reached on an error, gave the Lady Reds a 6-5 lead off Pelsor's RBI groundout. Jones plated Herdgen with a single to widen Carthage's lead to 7-5.
Â
The Lady Reds pushed their lead to 9-5 in the third inning off Juarez's two-run single that scoredÂ
Emmily Zinkiewicz (hit by pitch) and Walsh (walk). Augustana tied the game 9-9 with a three-run sixth inning before Carthage returned the favor in the seventh inning. Uhwat did just that with a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Carthage a 12-9 victory.
Â
Pitchers
Rachel Fanella and
Allie Wesel both saw action in the circle for the Lady Reds. Jones went three-for-three at the plate while five others contributed a hit for Carthage.
