Red Men Split Two In Chicago On Sunday At North Park

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Carthage College Red Men finished a 3-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin weekend on Sunday with a split of two games at North Park University in north Chicago.

The split moves the Red Men to 9-8 in the CCIW and 17-14 overall, while the Vikings move to 12-20 and 5-11.

Game 1: Carthage 8, North Park 7
The Red Men held on to win a back and forth affair in game one that Carthage was able to hold on to despite a late run by the Vikings in the ninth.

Kevin Tibor picked up his team-leading seventh win of the season, despite allowing six earned runs on 13 hits, to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Carthage tallied eight runs on 11 hits in a game that saw three lead changes and four ties.  Jordan Wiegold, Nick Pierce and Myles Farley each had a pair of hits for the Red Men, while Jared Knoespel and Zach Wade each drove in a pair of runs to lead Carthage.

Jonathan Uba, Colin Dresen and Alex Tinkoff combined to finish the game in the ninth, allowing one run to hold on for the victory.  Tinkoff picked up his second save of the season with the win.

Game 2: North Park 12, Carthage 10
The second game saw the Red Men fall behind 8-1 in the fifth before a nine-run sixth flipped the score in the Red Men's favor.

In the inning, Carthage tallied nine runs on six hits, coupled with three Vikings errors, to overcome the large deficit.  Graham Wick, Myles Farley, Reed Hero and Zach Wade each had singles in the inning and Ryan Rodgers and A.J. Kaprelian added doubles.

Rodgers finished with his third three-hit game of the season to lead all players, while Knoespel, Hero and Kaprelian each had two to round out the multi-hit performances by the Red Men.

Hero, who also had a single in the seventh of game one, extended his hit streak to 19 with on Sunday as he finished with a combined three hits in the two games.
