Lady Reds Top Dubuque Saturday, 17-7

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Carthage College women's lacrosse program returned to the win column on Saturday as the Lady Reds routed the University of Dubuque, 17-7.
 
The win moves the Lady Reds to 10-5 and more importantly to 3-2 in the CCIW, cementing their spot in the 2017 College of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Lacrosse Tournament.  The loss drops Dubuque to 8-7 and one game out of the final spot in the tournament at 1-3.
 
Carthage was led by senior Mackenzie Day and freshman Nicole Bowman in the win, as the duo combined for ten of the Lady Reds' 17 total goals in the win, each scoring five apiece.  Maddie Griffin added four goals and two assists to lead the Lady Reds in points, while Rachel Mussell, Maddie Palmerson and Kendell Santin each added a goal for Carthage.
 
Goalkeeper Maggie Allen also improved to 10-5 on the season, making 14 saves in the win, including nine in the second half.
 
While Dubuque controlled a majority of the draws, the Lady Reds were able to force the Spartans into 20 turnovers and successfully clear the ball from their zone on 18-19 attempts.
 
The Lady Reds will closeout their regular season a week from Saturday as Carthage will face North Central College on April 29th at 1:00 p.m. in Naperville.
