AURORA, Ill. – The Carthage College baseball team bounced back from a rough weekend with a 21 hit performance to propel the Red Men to a dominant, 19-5, win at Aurora University on Tuesday.
Ian Maxeiner got more than enough run support in his second win of the season, as the junior went 5.0 innings allowing four runs, just one of which was earned, on six hits.
Jonathan Uba and
Colin Dresen combined to work the final 3.0 innings in the victory, allowing one run on three hits.
Carthage jumped out with a four run first courtesy of RBI's from
Matt Rave,
Zach Wade and
Ryan Kramer. Two innings later the Red Men knocked out starter Kyle Blunt following an
A.J. Kaprelian three-run home run to extend the Carthage lead to 7-1.
Carthage finished the day with a season-high four home runs as Rave,
Reed Hero and
Jordan Wiegold joined Kaprelian, adding homers later in the game to solidify the win.
Second baseman
Matt Rave and third baseman
Zach Wade both led the Red Men with four hits apiece in the win, while Hero scored four times and Kaprelian drove home a team-high four runs.
Carthage returns to the road on Wednesday with a quick turnaround, as the Red Men head to the south side of the Windy City for an afternoon game with the University of Chicago at 3:00 p.m.
