FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Carthage College Lady Reds dropped a tough one on Tuesday night as the women's lacrosse team fell at Pacific University in overtime, 9-8.
The loss drops the Lady reds to 4-2 on the season, while Pacific improves to 2-3 in 2017.
Freshman
Nicole Bowman led the Lady Reds with a hat trick on the night in the spring break opener followed by
Rachel Mussell and
Mackenzie Day with two goals apiece.
Maddie Griffin rounded out the scoring for Carthage with a goal, as well as a team-high two assists.
Carthage overcame a 3-1 deficit early with goals by Griffin and Bowman to tie the game at three with 13:28 left in the first half and after falling behind again 4-3, the Lady Reds used goals by Mussell, Day and Bowman to take a 6-4 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, Carthage extended their lead to as many as three with 9:25 remaining in regulation following Bowman's third goal to put the Lady Reds up 8-5.
However, a late comeback by the Boxers with three unanswered goals tied the game at 8-8 with 4:53 to force overtime in the game.
Despite making a game-high 11 saves,
Maggie Allen took the loss in goal for the Lady Reds.
Pacific managed to complete the comeback in the first overtime period however, as the Boxers scored with 33-seconds remaining in the first sudden victory period.
The Lady Reds will continue their spring break in Oregon on Thursday as Carthage visits Linfield College at 6:00 p.m. locally on the west coast.
