KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team closed their three-game home stand on Saturday afternoon against the University of Dubuque in their first CCIW contest of the season. The Red Men powered past Dubuque 15-2 behind
Andy Szun's second four-goal game of the season.
Trevor Thelander, who missed the previous two games, added a pair of goals and four assists to the Carthage offense.
Andy Meyers won 15-of-17 faceoffs for the Red Men.Â

Ten penalties were called in the contest, three of which were assessed to the Red Men. Carthage out shot the Spartans 43-25 in the contest.

The Red Men now own a four-game win streak, their longest since they began the 2015 season 10-0.

The victory gives Carthage a 6-1, 1-0 CCIW record while Dubuque falls to 2-3, 0-1 CCIW.

The Red Men opened the contest with a 10-1 advantage in shots en route to a 3-0 lead at the 4:09 mark of the first quarter. One of those goals came from senior
Jordyn Williams, who tallied his fifth-career goal with 10:21 left in the first quarter to put Carthage on the board first.

The Red Men continued to lay wood on the opposing goalkeeper in the second quarter as they out shot Dubuque 15-2 in the frame.
Billy Lane and Szun paced a 5-0 Carthage second quarter with a pair of goals each to widen their lead to 8-0 at halftime. Â

Williams tallied his second goal of the game off an ensuing faceoff won by Meyers to give Carthage a 9-0 lead at the 14:48 mark of the third quarter before Dubuque responded. Tyson Svoboda put the Spartans on the board with 8:57 left in the third quarter to make the score 9-1.

Dubuque outshot the Red Men 15-10 from that point forward, but only fired one to the back of the net to help Carthage secure a 15-2 victory.

Cameron Laird collectively notched 12 saves for the Red Men.

Carthage will return to action on Saturday, March 18 at Aurora University. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
