WAUKESHA, WIS.—The Carthage College women's basketball team traveled to Carroll University (Wis.) for their final bout of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday night. The Pioneers, who wrap up their inaugural season back in the CCIW, fell to the Lady Reds 82-69 at Tarble Arena on December 7.

The first half featured 10 lead changes before
Rachel Szydlowski's layup at the 2:35 mark of the second quarter gave Carthage the lead for good in an 80-62 victory over Carroll (Wis.).

The Lady Reds end the 2016-17 season with a 14-11, 8-8 CCIW record while Carroll falls to 1-23, 1-15 CCIW.

Caylee Koker and Morgan Lund teamed up to score Carroll's 13 first-quarter points, which helped them maintain a lead on three occasions throughout the frame. However, three layups from
Rachel Szydlowski within the final three minutes of the first quarter powered Carthage to a 20-13 advantage after the frame.

Koker's hot hand continued for Carroll into the second frame as she knocked down a pair of three pointers and a layup to tie the game 26-26 at the 5:00 mark. The Pioneers notched leads of 27-26 and 30-29 before Carthage took over the game. Szydlowski's layup with 2:35 remaining in the second quarter gave the Lady Reds the lead for good at 31-30.

A pair of
Bailey Gilbert three-pointers generated a 10-3 Carthage run to close the second half en route to a 41-33 advantage at intermission. Gilbert converted on four-of-seven shots from beyond the arch to lead all scorers with 14 points at the break.

Morgan Harris's jumper at the 8:09 mark of the third quarter gave Carthage their first double-digit lead of the game at 45-35. Senior
Mandy Hozzian, who played her final game as a Lady Red, notched five points in the third frame on a layup and three-pointer to help Carthage take a 61-50 lead into the fourth quarter.

Carthage maintained their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter to secure an 80-62 victory over the Pioneers.

Szydlowski paced the Lady Reds with 16 points. Gilbert (14) and
Morgan Vukovich (10) registered double figure points for Carthage.
Morgan Harris led all players with 12 boards. Coker paced all players with 24 points on a six-of-nine figure from beyond the arch for the Pioneers.
