Lady Reds to Close 2017 at Ripon College

FULL GAME NOTES
 

THE GAMES

  • The Carthage College women's basketball team (7-4, 1-2 CCIW) will face Ripon College (5-4, 3-1 MWC) in the final contest of 2017 on Saturday, December 30 at the Don Weiske Gymnasium in Ripon, Wis. at 1:00 p.m.
  • The Redhawks will host Carthage off a two-week hiatus that began with a 66-54 loss to UW-Stevens Point on December 15. The Lady Reds defeated UW-Stevens Point 67-49 at Tarble Arena on November 29. 
  • Maggie Oimon paces the Redhawk's scoring and rebounding efforts with 11.7 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. Emma McDonald (11.1 points per game) and Eleanore Mueller (10.2 points per game) round out the Redhawks averaging in double-figure scoring.
  • Ripon's 12.4 rebounding margin currently ranks 16th among NCAA Division III squads. 
  • The Redhawks are coming off a 2016-17 campaign that saw them finish 17-7, 15-3 MWC, which put them in a tie for second place with St. Norbert College. 
  • Ripon has four Midwest Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships to their name (1995-96, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2008-09). The Redhawks reached the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament Second Round in 2003-04 and 2004-05. 
  • Ripon is currently tied with Lake Forest College for first place four games into Midwest Conference play. 

THE COACHES

  • Lauren Johnson (48-55) is in her fifth season as Ripon College head women's basketball coach.
  • Tim Bernero (248-139) in in his 15th season patrolling the Carthage College women's basketball program.
THE SERIES
  • The Lady Reds will look to keep their 5-0 all-time record against Ripon College intact. 
  • Carthage took down the Redhawks 70-49 in their last meeting on November 15, 2014. 

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Lady Reds went 1-1 in their two-game swing at the Daytona Beach Shootout on December 20-21. Carthage registered a 60-53 victory in their first ever meeting with Drew University before they dropped a 64-60 decision against Simpson College on December 21. 
  • Carthage came back from their largest deficit of the season against Drew as they dug out of a 15-point hole with 1:03 left in the second quarter. 
  • Autumn Kalis drained a season-high eight field goals and five three-point field goals en route to 21 points in the 64-60 loss to Simpson College. 

HOME-COOKING

The Lady Reds registered an 8-2 record at Tarble Arena in 2017, which included a 3-0 mark in 2017-18.

THE LADY REDS ARE.....

  • 6-0 when they have more rebounds than their opponent.
  • 4-0 when they shoot .450 percent or better from the field.
  • 5-0 when they hold opponents to less than 60 points. 

MILESTONE WATCH

Bailey Gilbert, who owns 152 career three pointers, recently moved into fourth place on the Carthage all-time three-point field goal list. Haley Stercic (2011-14) holds the Lady Reds career record for most three-point field goals with 202. Morgan Harris currently ranks second on the Carthage all-time free-throw percentage list with an .800 (244-305) figure. 

OPENING THE YEAR STRONG

The Lady Reds have opened the new year with a victory the past six seasons. January 5, 2011 was the last time Carthage opened a new year with a loss, when they fell to Wheaton (Ill.) 66-62.
