WHEATON, Ill. – The Carthage College Lady Reds concluded their 2017 regular season on Tuesday with their eighth-straight win, as the women's volleyball team swept their sixth opponent of the streak, defeating Wheaton College on the road, 3-0.
Now at 23-8 on the season, the Lady Reds finish the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a 6-2 record and as the number-two seed in this weekend's CCIW Women's Volleyball Tournament, while the Thunder's season comes to an end at 4-21 and 1-7 in the league.
Carthage dominated Wheaton, hitting .330 to the Thunder's .087, taking the match in three sets [25-20, 25-17, 25-13].
Shannon Kebisek, whom has been on fire as of late from the outside for the Lady Reds, led Carthage with 12 kills on the night. In her last four matches, Shannon has had 12-or-more kills in three of them. Behind Kebisek,
Megan Behrendt added 11 kills and
Megan Fallert had nine.
Setter
Ellie LeCount had 40 assists in the three-setter and
Luci Krenzke added 14 digs to lead the way.
Carthage recorded six blocks as a team, led by
Katie Laio with four blocks.
The Lady Reds will open their 2017 Conference Tournament on Friday as Carthage takes on number-three seed, Illinois Wesleyan University at 4:30 p.m. at Millikin University. The winner will face the winner of Millikin University versus Elmhurst College on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
