Lady Reds Close 2017 Slate Against Pioneers and Vikings

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College women's soccer team's (9-7, 2-4 CCIW) final week of the 2017 regular season will pit them at Carroll University (Wis.) on Wednesday, October 25 at 5:00 p.m., and at home against Augustana College (Ill.) on Saturday, October 28 at 5:00 p.m. The Lady Reds, who sit in seventh place in the CCIW, have an opportunity to defeat a pair of teams currently inside the playoff picture. Carroll (Wis.) (3-1-2) is entrenched in third place while Augustana (Ill.) is deadlocked in fourth place (3-2-1).
 
ABOUT CARROLL (WIS.) (11-3-2, 3-1-2 CCIW)
 
The Pioneers pace all CCIW squads with 7.81 points per game, a 2.94 scoring offense, 47 goals, and 125 total points. Reigning CCIW Player of the Year Rachel Van Sluys' 12 goals and eight assists for 32 points leads the Pioneers' charge, followed by Delaney Pruitt's 12 goals and five assists for 29 points. Sabrina Georgeff (11g, 1a) rounds out the Pioneers' three-headed monster. Van Sluys' leads the CCIW in six offensive categories while Pruitt paces the league in goals per game (0.75) and total goals (12).
 
Christina O'Block commands the goalkeeping staff with a 1.12 goals against average, a .758 save percentage and 50 saves over 15 starts this season. The Pioneers, who haven't lost in October (3-0-2), are led by seventh-year head coach Susie Foster. The Lady Reds carry a 7-7-1 all-time record against Carroll (Wis.). 
 
ABOUT AUGUSTANA COLLEGE (ILL.) (8-6-1, 3-2-1 CCIW)
 
The Vikings' .833 save percentage leads all CCIW teams. Goalkeeper Sydney Ion has a lot to do with that as she leads the Augustana goalkeeping staff with a 1.17 goals against average, an .810 save percentage and 47 saves. Andria Serra paces the Vikings offense with four goals and two assists for 10 points, followed by Karleen Gomez's three goals and two assists for eight points.
 
The Vikings will travel to Illinois Wesleyan today for a 7:00 p.m. game before they face Carthage off three days' rest. Scott Mejia is in his 17th season as Augustana (Ill.) head women's soccer coach. Carthage owns an 8-13-2 all-time record against the Vikings.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
 
The Lady Reds will play to earn a spot in the four-team CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament. The semifinal games will take place on Wednesday, November 1, with the championship game to follow on Saturday, November 4. All games will take place at the highest seeds.
