Decatur, Illinois – The Carthage College Lady Reds dropped their second straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match on Wednesday, falling to #12 Millikin University, 3-2.
The loss sends the Lady Reds to 14-7 and 4-2 in the CCIW, while the Big Blue improve to 21-6 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
The Lady Reds and Millikin exchanged wins in the first four sets with the Lady Reds winning sets one and three to take a 2-1 lead after three. After Millikin claimed the fourth, the Big Blue were able to beat the Lady Reds to 15 to take the match in five [21-25, 25-17, 27-29, 25-20, 15-10].
As a team the Lady Reds hit .162 to Millikin's .253, and were led by
Rachael Kisten's .360 for the match as she was one of three Lady Reds with ten kills joining
Shannon Kebisek with 16 and
Megan Behrendt with 12.
Ellie LeCount had 37 assist to lead the Lady Reds.
Despite the loss, the Lady Reds had their second best night of the season from the service line, tallying 11 aces with four from
Mallory Parsons. Joining Parsons with aces in the defeat were
Luci Krenzke and Behrendt with two, and
Megan Fallert, Laura De Rosales and Kebisek with one.
Defensively, the Carthage middles were dominant at the net with Fallert leading the way with five blocks followed by
Katie Laio with four.
Luci Krenzke was one-of-four Lady Reds with ten or more digs as she led the way with 26.
Carthage will hit the road this weekend for a non-conference tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Reds will open with Bates College and Oshkosh on Friday, and conclude their weekend with UW-Stevens Point and the University of Northwestern (Minnesota) on Saturday.
