DECATUR, ILL.—Back-to-back conference shutouts was at stake for the Carthage College women's soccer team in their showdown at Millikin University on Saturday. The Lady Reds prevailed that task with a 2-0 victory over the Big Blue at Frank M. Lindsay Field. Carthage tripled Millikin in shots (15-10) and shots on goal (9-3).
Maddie Kempf and
Joanne Stanfa each notched goals for a Carthage offense that peppered 10 of their 15 shots in the second half.
Maggie Washelesky paced the troops with three shots in the contest, which ups her season total to 48.

Emily Furmanek tallied three saves in a complete-game victory while Anna Benvenuto turned away seven shots for the Big Blue. The victory improves Carthage's record to 9-5, 2-2 CCIW while Millikin falls to 7-6-1, 0-3-1 CCIW.

The Big Blue held Carthage in check with a 6-3 shots advantage in the opening 34:00 of action. Kempf and
Alexis Malka entered the contest as the team's first substitutions in the 36
th minute, which proved to be the spark plug Carthage needed. Kempf came off the bench and registered her second goal of the season in the 37
th minute to give Carthage a 1-0 lead. The assist was credited to Stanfa, who launched a pass across the box to 15 yards in front of Big Blue goalkeeper Benvenuto, where Kempf was standing.

The Lady Reds found themselves down 6-5 in shots at intermission before they tallied a 10-4 advantage in the second half. One of those shots found the back of the net, thanks to Stanfa's goal in the 77
th minute that pushed Carthage's advantage to 2-0.

The Lady Reds used 23 players in the contest while Millikin utilized 16 bodies.

Carthage will return to Art Keller Field on Wednesday, October 18 against Elmhurst College at 5:00 p.m.
