FULL GAME NOTES
THE GAME
-The Carthage College women's basketball team will begin a three-game homestand against North Park University on Wednesday, January 4 at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Reds will host Elmhurst College on Saturday, January 7 at 5:00 p.m.
-North Park (8-4, 1-2 CCIW) will invade Tarble Arena following a 1-1 record at the Colorado College Tournament. The Vikings fell to Luther College 78-72 on December 29 before defeating Colorado College 63-43 on December 30.
-North Park's Amani Davis leads all NCAA Division III women's basketball players with a 4.91 assist/turnover ratio. Liz Rehberger's 20.0 points per game ranks second in the CCIW, and 33rd in NCAA Division III.
-Elmhurst (9-3, 1-2 CCIW) began the 2016-17 campaign with a 6-0 mark before going 3-3 in their previous six games.
-Mikaela Eppard leads the Bluejays in scoring with 17.1 points per game, and ranks fifth in NCAA Division III with five double-doubles.Â
THE COACHES
-The 2016-17 season is Amanda Crockett's ninth as North Park University head women's basketball coach. She previously served as an assistant coach at University of Illinois-Chicago.
-Tethnie Carrillo is in her 10th season as Elmhurst College head women's basketball coach. Carrillo was an assistant coach at Lake Superior State University prior to Elmhurst.
THE SERIES
-The Lady Reds own a 55-20 all-time record against North Park University. The Vikings swept the season series with Carthage (52-69, 57-59) in 2015-16.
-Carthage will take a 54-16 all-time record into their bout with Elmhurst. The Lady Reds defeated the Bluejays by scores of 80-69 and 78-75 last season.
LAST TIME OUT
-The Lady Reds registered a 71-59 win over Stevenson University on December 29, and a 76-45 victory over Allegheny College on December 30 to finish 2-0 at the Music City Classic.Â
-It was Carthage's first ever matchup with Stevenson and Allegheny.
-Madie Kaelber paced the Lady Reds with 20 points in the 76-45 win over Allegheny while Bailey Gilbert's 14 points led Carthage in the 71-59 victory over Stevenson.Â
-Gilbert paced Carthage in the Music City Classic with 13.5 points per game while going 8-of-13 from the three-point line. She added five steals and three blocks throughout the two-game span.
SETTING THE TONE
Carthage owns a 4-0 record this season when they score first.Â
RECORD WATCH
Harris sits in first place on the Carthage College record book with an .814 (192-236) career free-throw percentage.Â
CONFERENCE/NATIONAL RANKINGS
Morgan Harris leads the CCIW in assists (62), assists per game (5.6) and free throws made (48). Harris is one of nine players in NCAA Division III to achieve a triple-double this season. The Lady Reds are among the top NCAA Division III teams with 97 three-point field goals made, 8.8 three-point field goals per game, a .373 three-point field goal percentage, and a .749 free-throw percentage.Â
HANGING ON
The Lady Reds own a 7-0 mark this season when they hold a lead with 2:00 left in the game, and a 5-0 record when they lead at halftime.Â
COLLEGIATE DEBUT
Sammie Woodward made her collegiate debut in the Lady Red's 71-59 win over Stevenson on December 29. She tallied two points and one steal in 16 minutes of work. Ellie Haviland made her Carthage debut in a 76-45 win over Allegheny on December 30.Â
NEW LEADING SCORER
Madie Kaelber paces Carthage in scoring with 14.4 points per game, and 25 three-point field goals made. Morgan Harris leads the Lady Reds with 6.3 rebounds per game, 5.6 assists per game and 1.7 steals per game.
CCIW IN THE TOP 25
Wheaton (Ill.) is ranked #23 on the D3Hoops.com Poll for the Week of January 2.Â
CAREER-HIGHS
Madie Kaelber (five rebounds vs. Allegheny, 12/29/16), Morgan Harris (12 rebounds vs. Allegheny 12/29/16), Bailey Gilbert (two blocks vs. Allegheny 12/29/16) and Maggie Berigan (10 rebounds, two free throws, four free throws attempted vs. Allegheny 12/29/16) tallied career highs for the Lady Reds last week.Â
