Lady Reds Open Four-Game Home Swing This Week



FULL GAME NOTES

THE GAME

-The Carthage College women's basketball team (8-8, 3-5 CCIW) will open a four-game home stand against North Central College (Ill.) (10-7, 4-4 CCIW) on Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Reds will host Augustana College (Ill.) (13-4, 6-2 CCIW) on Saturday, January 28 at 5:00 p.m. 

-North Central (Ill.) will enter Wednesday's game with a fifth-place standing in the CCIW. 

-North Central (Ill.) leads NCAA Division III in final points (1,554), final opponent points (1,460), scoring offense (91.4), three-point field goal attempts (808), three-point field goals made (229) and three-point field goals per game (13.5). 

-Mayson Whipple paces the Cardinals in scoring with 12.3 points per game, and 54 assists this season 

-Augustana, who will face Illinois Wesleyan on January 25, are tied for second place in the CCIW with Elmhurst College.

-Corrie Reilly leads the Vikings with 13.1 points per game. Izzy Anderson (12.1), Kaycee Kallenberger (11.5) and Mikayla Fallon (10.6) round out the four Augustana players who average double-figure scoring. Kallenberger's 53 blocks, and 3.12 blocks per game each rank 11th in NCAA Division III. 

THE COACHES

-Michelle Roof is in her seventh season as North Central College head women's basketball coach. Roof previously spent five seasons as the head women's basketball coach at Aurora University.

-The 2016-17 season is Mark Beinborn's fifth as Augustana head women's basketball coach. Beinborn was previously the assistant men's basketball coach at Edgewood College.

THE SERIES

-The Lady Reds own a 37-28 all-time mark against Augustana. This includes an 83-68 loss on December 10. 

-Carthage carries a 48-26 all-time record against North Central (Ill.). This includes an 87-82 loss on January 18.

LAST TIME OUT

-Carthage fell to North Central (Ill.) 87-82 on January 18. Monica Masini (20), Madie Kaelber (16), Rachel Szydlowski (14) and Autumn Kalis (13) all scored in double figures in the Lady Red's loss.

-Szydlowski (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Masini (20 points, 12 rebounds, career-highs) became the third and fourth Lady Reds to achieve a double double this season.

-Carthage fell to Wheaton College (Ill.) 65-46 on January 21.

-Kaelber's 12 points paced the Lady Reds in their loss to the Thunder.

-Morgan Harris reached the double-digit rebound plateau for the fifth time this season with 10 against Wheaton (Ill.).

RECORD WATCH

Harris sits in first place on the Carthage College record book with an .817 (196-240) career free-throw percentage. Kalis's .463 (29-63) three-point field goal percentage this season ranks fifth on the Carthage all-time single-season list.

CONFERENCE/NATIONAL RANKINGS

Harris leads the CCIW with 87 assists, 5.4 assists per game, and one triple double. Kaelber's 35 three-point field goals made, and 2.19 three-point field goals per game each rank second in the CCIW.

The Lady Reds rank second in the CCIW, and 11th in NCAA Division III with 8.4 three-point field goals made per game. Carthage's .360 three-point field goal percentage ranks 20th among NCAA Division III women's basketball teams. 

STATISTICAL LEADERS

Madie Kaelber paces the Lady Reds in scoring with 13.4 points per game, and 35 three-point field goals made. Harris leads Carthage in rebounds per game (6.8), assists per game (5.4) and steals per game (1.3).  Masini's .532 (41-of-77) field goal percentage and Kalis's .460 three-point field goal percentage lead the Lady Reds. 

CALLING ALL ALUMNI

Alumni Day for both the Red Men and Lady Reds basketball teams is set for Saturday, February 11 at Tarble Arena. The women's alumni game will take place at 1:00 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 2:00 p.m. A pizza reception will take place from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Todd Wehr Center. The Red Men and Lady Reds will host Illinois Wesleyan University at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

POSITIVE SPIN

The Lady Reds held a nine-point, 52-43 lead at the 7:17 mark of the fourth quarter against North Central (Ill.) on January 18. It was Carthage's largest lead on the road in 2016-17. The Lady Reds registered a season-high 57 team rebounds against the Cardinals. 

ROAD WOES

Carthage is in pursuit of their first true-road victory of the 2016-17 season.

CAREER/SEASON-HIGHS

Masini tallied a career-high 20 points and 12 rebounds against North Central (Ill.) on January 18. Szydlowski (four free throws, four free-throw attempts, four blocks vs. North Central 1/18/17) and Kaelber (14 three-point field goal attempts vs. North Central 1/18/17) tallied season-highs for the Lady Reds last week.

BALANCED ATTACK

Eight different Lady Reds have scored in double figures, while four players have achieved a double double through 16 games of the 2016-17 season.
