KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College women's swimming and diving team returned to the pool Saturday as the Lady Reds hosted College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe, Wheaton College, with the Thunder edging the Lady Reds 171-127.
The loss is the first on the year for the Lady Reds in dual meets and drops Carthage to 5-1 on the season with just two weeks remaining until the 2017 CCIW Championships.
Three Lady Reds took first on the day for Carthage in the dual. Diver
Zoe Rodriguez won the one-meter competition with a final score of 240.65.
Joining Rodriguez with wins on the afternoon were
Kate Hugo in the 200 backstroke [2:14.04] and
Mattea Arndt in the 200 individual medley [2:17.42]. Both also turned in second place finishes as well, as Hugo took second in the 100 back [1:02.02] and 100 butterfly [1:02.69] and Arndt in the 500 free [5:29.63].
A number of Lady Reds also turned in impressive runner up finishes. Taking second on the day included
Hannah Pearson in the 1000 freestyle [11:35.21],
Hannah Miles in the 100 breaststroke [1:08.32] and 200 breast [2:31.78],
DeAnn Jones in the 50 free [24.99] and Becca Rutkowski in the 100 free [55.03].
A pair of Lady Reds' relay teams also took second Saturday. Hugo, Miles, Arndt and Jones in the 200 medley relay [1:52.27] and Rutkowski,
Gianna McGuire,
Emily Wright and Jones in the 400 free relay [3:41.20].
Carthage hosts one final meet to close out the regular season as the Lady Reds and Red Men will host the Wisconsin Private College Championships at Koenitzer Aquatic Center on January 28
th.
