ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carthage College women's lacrosse rebounded from a disappointing midweek loss on Saturday, as the Lady Reds throttled the University of Northwestern, 24-0, at the Eagles' Reynolds Field.

The Lady Reds improved to 5-3 on the season with the dominate win, while dropping Northwestern to 1-7 in 2016.

Carthage was led by
Maddie Griffin who reclaimed he team-lead with a five-goal performance to give her 22 on the season.Â
Kara Vana and
Mackenzie Day each had four goals in the game and
Shannon Long,
Megan McNamara,
Kendell Santin and
Marissa Vavra each had two goals apiece.Â
Bryanna Barrera,
Greigh Hoeft and
Rachel Mussell each had one goal for the Lady Reds to round out the scoring on the day.

Carthage opened the game with two goals in the second minute of the match and then, starting at the 20:29 mark of the first half, Carthage used a 9-0 run over 9:05 to put the game away early at 11-0 in favor of the Lady Reds.  Three more goals before the half gave the Lady Reds a 14-0 lead at the halftime break.Â

The Lady Reds would continue to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 10-0 to cruise to the win.

Taylor Sopron earned the win in goal with a complete game shutout, turning away all three shots the Eagles had on target, to improve to 4-2 on the year.

Next up, the Lady Reds will close out their 2016 non-conference season with Augsburg College on Sunday, April 3rd at 1:00 PM at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field in Minneapolis.
