MEQUON, Wis. – The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (5-8, 1-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) returned to play on Wednesday, April 13 with a match against the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons (8-3) at Fitting Field in Mequon, Wis.

Concordia's Marino Best scored the lone goal in the first quarter on a ball from James Warner.

In the second quarter, the Falcons's James Warner scored an unassisted goal with 11:45 remaining in the quarter to expand Concordia's lead to 2-0. Just one minute later,
Jared Ferrell scored the first goal for the Red Men with 10:33 left in the first half. Eight minutes later,
Luke Seydel connected with the net to tie the game 2-2 with 2:34 remaining. The teams headed into the half tied 2-2.

James Warner scored the first goal of the second half for the falcons with 6:53 left in the third quarter. Five minutes later, Gregory Stephan connected on a ball from Matt Garvey to score and put Concordia up 4-2 with 1:24 remaining in the third quarter.

On a man up opportunity with 11:51 remaining in the fourth quarter, Concordia's Stephen scored to extend the Falcons's lead to 5-2. With 9:29 left in the fourth quarter, the Red Men started to mount a monumental comeback with a goal by
Jared Ferrell. The Red Men added three more goals by
Luke Seydel (8:36),
Billy Lane (6:03), and
Dylan Harris (3:29) to take the lead 6-5. With 0:25 remaining in regulation, Concordia was penalized with too many players on the field which game the Red Men an extra-man opportunity. However, with 0:07 left, Carthage was found offside and evened out the players on the field. With three seconds left in regulation, Concordia's Matt Garvey scored to tie the game 6-6, sending the match into overtime.

The first overtime period took action quickly as Concordia missed their first two shots in the period. Then, with 2:18 left in the first overtime period, Concordia's James Warner scored, securing the 7-6 win for the Falcons over the Red Men.

As a team, the Red Men recorded 30 shots, 14 turnovers, nine saves, 19 ground balls, went 18-22 in clears, 0-6 in man up opportunities, and 6-15 in face offs.
Jared Ferrell and
Luke Seydel led the Red Men in goals with two apiece. Ferrell also led the team in shots on goal with a total of seven.
Jordyn Williams compiled four ground balls, accompanied by
Ryan Smith with three. Goalie
Ryan Smith finished the game with nine saves and seven goals against.

Carthage returns to play on Saturday, April 16 at 7 p.m. as they take on Carroll University at Art Keller Field. The Red Men will also recognize their seniors in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday as a part of their senior night.
