LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Carthage College women's lacrosse program capped off their 2016 spring break with a dominating 16-3 win over the Randolph College Saturday, March 26th at WildCats stadium.

The win improves the Lady Reds to 4-2 on the season and conclude their spring trip out east at 2-1, while dropping Randolph to 2-6.

The Lady Reds controlled all aspects of the match putting 31 of their 37 shots in the match on goal, while limiting Randolph to just 17 total shots in the game. The Lady Reds went 3-of-10 on free position shots as
Maggie Allen and
Taylor Sopron held the WildCats to just 1-of-5 as they combined for 15 saves in the match.

Combining for 12 goals,
Maddie Griffin,
Kendell Santin and
Kara Vana each had four goals in the match to give Griffin a team-high on the season 16 goals, followed by Vana with 15 and Santin in third with eight.

After Santin and Griffin put the Lady Reds up 2-0 in the first 3:07 of the first half, the WildCats rattled off the next two goals to tie the match at 2-2 with 13:04 remaining in the half.

Carthage used a 4-0 run over the rest of the half behind goals from Griffin,
Bryanna Barrera,
Kara Vana and finally
Marissa Vavra, with six seconds left in the first, to take a 6-2 lead into the halftime break.

The Lady Reds carried that momentum into the second half, outscoring the WildCats 10-1 in the final 30 minutes behind a near perfect half by Sopron in goal, who replaced Allen at the half, with four saves and allowing just the one goal as regulation expired. Â

Kendell Santin and
Kara Vana led the Lady Reds' second half offensive surge, each recording a hat-tcik over the final 30 minutes. Â Griffin scored twice in the half, while
Greigh Hoeft and
Shannon Long both tallied a single goal.

Carthage will continue their season-long seven-game road trip when they return to the Midwest beginning with a match at Concordia University of Wisconsin on Wednesday, March 30th in Mequan at 4:00 PM.
