Â
Both teams failed to find rhythm with the three-ball in the second frame. The Maroons tallied an 0-for-5 mark from beyond the arch, but their defense made up for that as they held Carthage to an 0-for-8 figure for the entire first half. Obi Olariche's 10 first-half points helped Chicago maintain a 28-19 lead at halftime.
Â
The Maroons stretched their lead to 12 points on two occasions throughout the third quarter. Stephanie Anderson's three-pointer with 0:45 left in the third frame gave Chicago a 52-40 cushion heading into the fourth quarter.
Â
That lead stretched to 65-48 at the 6:45 mark of the third quarter before Carthage responded with a 21-4 run to tie the game 69-69 after regulation. Clutch free-throw shooting from Szydlowski and Harris helped push Carthage to a 69-67 lead with 0:22 left. Britta Lundstrom converted on both her shots from the charity stripe for Chicago with 0:07 left to tie the game 69-69.
Â
The Lady Reds generated their first lead of overtime when
Mandy Hozzian tallied a three-pointer with 3:00 left to make the score 76-74. That was the largest lead Carthage could muster in overtime as Chicago responded with a 12-5 run to secure an 86-81 victory.
