PLATTEVILLE, Ill. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team finished off a perfect 5-0 week Saturday as the Lady Reds earned a pair of sweeps Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Tournament, defeating Nebraska Wesleyan University and Platteville.
The pair of wins moves Carthage to 13-8 overall on the season with four non-conference games remaining.
"It was a really good weekend for the Lady Reds," said head women's volleyball coach
Leanne Ulmer. "We won the 'serve/pass' game in each match this weekend and that usually means you are giving yourself a chance to win. We had a number of individuals who had great performances over the four games.
Mallory Parsons was very effective serving and passed very well.
Luci Krenzke did a great job defensively digging the ball and passing.
Stefanie Romanowski was tough at the net all weekend and hit for a high percentage, while causing problems for everyone with her blocks."
In the opening match, despite not hitting well, the Lady Reds took advantage of Nebraska Wesleyan's hitting issues, as Carthage hit .175 to NWU's -.022, taking the match, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18.
Shannon Kebisek led all players in the match with 12 kills, the only player to reach double digits.
Abigail McGowan and
Ellie LeCount teamed up for 30 assists between the two of them; McGowan with 16 and LeCount with 14.
In the finale against host Platteville, completed their third sweep of the weekend, taking down the Pioneers, 25-16, 25-20, 25-11.
Ellie LeCount put up a match-high 21 assists and
Anna Kinell equaled Kebisek with 11 kills apiece.
Following the tournament, Romanowski and Krenzke were named to the UW-Platteville All-Tournament Team.
Ulmer closed stating, "It feels good to get on a run as we go into a week where we play a tough CCIW opponent in Millikin and three top-25 teams next week."
Carthage returns home for a midweek affair on Wednesday, October 19th when the Lady Reds host #23 Millikin University at 7:00 p.m. at Tarble Arena.
