KENOSHA, Wis. – Carthage swimming and diving (4-2, 2-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) competed against CCIW rival Augustana College on Sat. January 9, 2016 at Koenitzer Aquatic Center; Carthage concluded the meet with a 139-122 victory.
Carthage began the afternoon with the 200 Medley Relay. The Red Men relay consisting of
Sam Gabriel,
Paul Devereux,
Lucas Linder and
Lee Hollman ended with both a strong finish of 1:36.36 and the top spot.
Patrick Sobkowski finished first in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:38.79. Carthage also had top finishes from
Jamey Hill (10:44.86) and
Danny Steenrod (10:50.72) of second and third respectively.
Chris Russo, in the 200 Free, culminated a finishing time of 1:47.12 and a first place finish.
The Red Men had a one-two finish in the 100 Back with Hollman finishing first (53.26) and Gabriel second (53.37).
Chris Riordan came second to Augustana's Ian Disteldorf in both the 100 and 200 Breast. Riordan finished the 100 with a time of 59.16, and the 200 with 2:11.94
Linder, in the 200 Fly, finished in second with a time of 2:02.32. The time was four hundreths of a second behind David Sommers of Augustana (2:02.28).
James Weslaski finished first in the 50 Free with a time of 22.02.
Cameron Small (22.43) and Devereux (22.60) finished third and fourth in the event respectively.
Carthage took the top two spots in the 100 Free; Small took the first place spot finishing in 49.87 seconds and
James Hasbrouck finished second with a time of 50.32.
Newcomer,
Sam Gabriel, finished first in the 200 Back with a time of 1:55.29.
In the diving portion,
Aaron San Juan finished first with a new personal best of 390.92 points.
Riley Busche finished in second with a score of 324.01 points.
Carthage returns to the Koenitzer Aquatic Center January 23 to compete against CCIW rival Wheaton College at 11 AM.
