SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Carthage College men's men's volleyball team (4-1, 0-0 MCVL) took to the court on Friday, January 29
th to take on No. 9 Juniata College (0-1) in the first match of the Jim Coleman Invitational at Wittenberg University.

An early seven-point run in the first set would give the Red Men a commanding 9-1 lead over the Eagles. Juniata would not be able to respond to Carthage's dominating offense as the Red Men would win the first set 25-13.

The second set would one again showcase the Red Men's offensive and defensive powerhouse as they quickly jumped out to an 8-1 lead. Errors would once again plague the Eagles as Carthage retained control of the game. The Red Men would take the second set 25-15, expanding their lead to 2-0 over Juniata.

The third set would prove to be more of a challenge for the Red Men, even after earning a 9-3 lead over the Eagles. Some offensive momentum and a number of errors by Carthage would give Juniata the edge they needed to take a 13-11 lead. The lead switched sides a few times before the Red Men found themselves on the short side of a 22-20 lead by the Eagles. However, the Red Men would come out victorious in the third set thanks to a kill by
J.P. Tulacka, a service ace by
Matt Reinsel and three errors by Juniata. The 25-22 win secured Carthage's 3-0 sweep of Juniata College.

As a team, the Red Men completed 40 kills, six aces, 11 blocks, 36 assists, 25 digs, and hit .383.
Griffin Shields recorded 15 kills, along with
J.P. Tulacka with 9 and
Zach Lillig with 5.
Will Craft and Tulacka each earned two aces.
Scotty Adamczyk and Lillig each completed 5 blocks, closely followed by Tulacka with 4.
Matt Reinsel made 32 assists and
Marc Hansen earned 10 digs.

The Red Men return to play on Saturday, January 30th as they take on Eastern Mennonite University at 1 p.m., EST and California Lutheran University at 3 p.m., EST.
