Red Men Volleyball sweeps #9 Juniata College 3-0 on Friday, January 29th

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Carthage College men's men's volleyball team (4-1, 0-0 MCVL) took to the court on Friday, January 29th to take on No. 9 Juniata College (0-1) in the first match of the Jim Coleman Invitational at Wittenberg University.

An early seven-point run in the first set would give the Red Men a commanding 9-1 lead over the Eagles. Juniata would not be able to respond to Carthage's dominating offense as the Red Men would win the first set 25-13.

The second set would one again showcase the Red Men's offensive and defensive powerhouse as they quickly jumped out to an 8-1 lead. Errors would once again plague the Eagles as Carthage retained control of the game. The Red Men would take the second set 25-15, expanding their lead to 2-0 over Juniata.

The third set would prove to be more of a challenge for the Red Men, even after earning a 9-3 lead over the Eagles. Some offensive momentum and a number of errors by Carthage would give Juniata the edge they needed to take a 13-11 lead. The lead switched sides a few times before the Red Men found themselves on the short side of a 22-20 lead by the Eagles. However, the Red Men would come out victorious in the third set thanks to a kill by J.P. Tulacka, a service ace by Matt Reinsel and three errors by Juniata. The 25-22 win secured Carthage's 3-0 sweep of Juniata College.

As a team, the Red Men completed 40 kills, six aces, 11 blocks, 36 assists, 25 digs, and hit .383. Griffin Shields recorded 15 kills, along with J.P. Tulacka with 9 and Zach Lillig with 5.
