The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (16-5, 5-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) played and lost its first-ever game in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday, May 6, losing a 14-6 first-round contest to No. 3 Ohio Wesleyan University (17-0) at Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio.

The Battling Bishops led, 9-0 at halftime and out-shot the Red Men by a 23-10 margin in the first half. Carthage got on the scoreboard with a couple of third-period goals, but Ohio Wesleyan led by 10 points, 12-2, going into the final period. The Red Men out-scored the Battling Bishops, 4-2, in the fourth period but wound up on the short end of a 14-6 score.

Kyle Foster led Ohio Wesleyan with three goals. Marcus Deitz, Matt Maier and Cooper Del Zotto added two goals each.Â
Jared Ferrell (Jr., Trabuco Canyon, Calif./El Toro) led the Red Men with three goals, and Rémy Giacotto (Sr., Elmwood Park, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) converted 10-of-18 faceoffs.
"I was proud of our guys tonight," said Carthage coach
David Neff. Â That was the No. 3 team in the country and a team that has been to the NCAA tournament 28 times. Â The second-half score was indicative of how well we played. They left their first unit in the whole game and we out-scored them in the second half. Â It's a step forward for Carthage lacrosse."
