The Carthage College women's lacrosse team (12-6, 5-1 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) lost the championship game of the inaugural CCIW Women's Lacrosse Tournament, 25-3, to Augustana College (Ill., 18-1) on Saturday, May 2 at Thorson-Lucken Field in Rock Island, Ill.
Carthage advanced to the title game with a 17-7 semifinal win over North Central College (10-5, 4-2 CCIW) on Wednesday, April 29 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. The Lady Reds were seeded second in the tournament and the Cardinals third. Top-seeded Augustana College (Ill., 17-1, 6-0) upended fourth-seeded Elmhurst College (9-9, 2-4), 19-2, on Wednesday night in the other semifinal contest.
In the title game, Augustana took a 17-2 halftime lead and out-scored Carthage by an 8-1 margin in the second period. Anne Hopkins led the Vikings with seven goals. Augustana out-shot Carthage by a 45-8 margin.
