Men's Lacrosse Defeats Illinois Wesleyan, 9-8 in OT, on April 18

Red Men's Jared Ferrell Scores the Game-Winner with One Second Left in Overtime

The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (12-3, 3-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) defeated CCIW-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University (10-5, 3-1), 9-8 in overtime, on Saturday, April 18 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.
 
The game was tied, 1-1, after the first period, but Carthage took a 4-2 halftime lead and led, 8-5, going into the final period.  The Titans scored three unanswered goals at 9:11, 6:23 and 2:34, the last two by Michael Julius, to send the game into overtime tied, 8-8.  With 45 seconds remaining the four-minute overtime period, Carthage's Billy Lane took a shot that went wide.  With one tick on the clock, the Red Men's Jared Ferrell (Jr., Trabuco Canyon, Calif./El Toro) scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Lane.
 
Dylan Harris (Fr., Carlsbad, Calif.) led Carthage with three goals and one assist.  Ferrell had two goals and an assist, while Timothy Francis (Sr., Costa Mesa, Calif./Huntington Beach) had a pair of goals.  Rémy Giacotto (Sr., Elmwood Park, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) converted 16-of-20 faceoffs, and goalkeeper Ryan Smith (So., Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) had eight saves.  Michael Julius, Alex Lambert and Nick Winter scored two goals apiece for the Titans.
 
Carthage   travels to Waukesha, Wis., on Wednesday, April 22 to play a doubleheader at Carroll University's Schneider Stadium.  Carthage takes on Beloit College (5-6) at 4:30 p.m. and CCIW-opponent Carroll University (Wis., 0-4, 0-1 CCIW) at 7 p.m. The Carroll (Wis.) game is a makeup from a contest postponed on April 8 due to lack of Pioneer players.
