The Carthage College baseball team (10-2, 1-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) opened its CCIW-schedule on Saturday, March 28 with a 2-1 win over North Park University (10-7,0-1 CCIW) at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago.

Carthage scored twice in the second inning on back-to-back sacrifice flies by
Matt Rave and Tyler Meseberg. North Park cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth when Mitchell Jordan scored on a balk. Carthage starting pitcher
Josh Daniels (Sr., Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove, 2-0) stopped the Vikings on one run, five hits, seven walks and six strikeouts.Â
Chris Pedrak (Fr., Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove-South) blanked North Park on a hit and walk over the final three innings to earn his second save.Â

Reed Hero both had two hits for Carthage.

The two teams were scheduled to conclude the three-game set with a Noon doubleheader on Sunday, March 29 at Augie Schmidt Field in Kenosha, Wis. That twinbill was postponed due to rain and cold weather, with a makeup date to be determined. Carthage travels to Carol Stream, Ill., on Tuesday, March 31 to play a 3 p.m. doubleheader with CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill., 7-12, 2-1 CCIW).
