Baseball Opens the North Park Series with a 2-1 Decision on March 28

Sunday Twinbill at Augie Schmidt Field Postponed

The Carthage College baseball team (10-2, 1-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) opened its CCIW-schedule on Saturday, March 28 with a 2-1 win over North Park University (10-7,0-1 CCIW) at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago.

Carthage scored twice in the second inning on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Matt Rave and Tyler Meseberg.  North Park cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth when Mitchell Jordan scored on a balk.  Carthage starting pitcher Josh Daniels (Sr., Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove, 2-0) stopped the Vikings on one run, five hits, seven walks and six strikeouts.  Chris Pedrak (Fr., Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove-South) blanked North Park on a hit and walk over the final three innings to earn his second save.  Matt Rave and Reed Hero both had two hits for Carthage.

The two teams were scheduled to conclude the three-game set with a Noon doubleheader on Sunday, March 29 at Augie Schmidt Field in Kenosha, Wis.  That twinbill was postponed due to rain and cold weather, with a makeup date to be determined.  Carthage travels to Carol Stream, Ill., on Tuesday, March 31 to play a 3 p.m. doubleheader with CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill., 7-12, 2-1 CCIW).
