Men's Basketball Closes Out Home Schedule with an 83-50 Win over Illinois Tech on Feb. 17

Red Men End the Season on Saturday at Millikin

The Carthage College men's basketball team (9-15, 4-9 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) closed outs its home schedule on Tuesday, Feb. 17 with an 83-50 win over non-conference opponent Illinois Tech (2-21) at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
 
Illinois Tech scored the first seven point of the game, but Carthage took the lead, 19-17, at 8:53.  The Red Men proceeded to take an 11-point lead, 34-23, a 3:27 and led by that margin at halftime, 38-27.  Carthage pulled away in the second period, opening up a 20-point lead, 47-27, at 18:39.  The Red Men took their largest lead of the game at 33 points, 83-53, with 32 second left on a three-pointer by Andy Buhrow.
 
Carthage shot 46 percent (30-66), including 10-of-32 three-pointers, while Illinois Tech shot 61 percent (23-38), including four-of-eight three-pointers  The Red Men got to the free-throw line 20 times and made 13, while the Scarlet Hawks missed their only free-throw attempt.  Illinois Tech out-rebounded Carthage by a 29-27 margin.
 
Kiston Lee (Sr., Decatur, Ill./MacArthur) and Mike Leazer (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Niles-Northridge Prep) each came off the Carthage bench to score 14 points.  Lee connected on six-of-nine field goals, and Leazer made five-of-nine, including four-of-six three-pointers.  Starter Mike Stevenson (So., Burlington, Wis./Wilmot-Union) scored 13 points with five rebounds, and Ellis Matthews (Jr., Libertyville, Ill.) added 11 points.  Samuel Rarick led the Scarlet Hawks with 26 points on 13-of-20 field goals, along with eight rebounds.
 
Carthage closes out its season on Saturday, Feb. 21 with a 7 p.m. game versus Millikin University (8-16, 3-10 CCIW) at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill.
