Red Men Use Three-Ball To Down Comets, 106-93

OLIVET, Mich. – The Carthage College Red Men improved to 3-1 on the year with a 106-93 win Tuesday, November 24th, over the Comets of Olivet College at Olivet's Cutler Event Center.

Freshman Jordon Kedrowski led all Red Men with 19 points and was one-of- six Red Men in double-figures.  Joining Kedrowski were Mike Stevenson with 15, Kevin Kozil with 14, Brad Kruse with 13, and Myles Olsen and Drew Joiner each with ten.

As a team, Carthage had their best shooting night of the young season, going 30-61 for 49.2-percent, as well as 53.1-percent from deep, shooting 17-32 from three-point land.

Carthage opened shooting lights-out from beyond the arch, going five-of-nine to start the game including two-of-two from three-point territory by Drew Joiner.

Trailing 26-23 midway through the first half, the Red Men went on a 9-0 run to take a 32-26 lead capped off by a Mike Stevenson three-point play.  Stevenson led all scorers in the first half with 12 points.  Carthage would push the lead to as many as seven late in the first half and took a 45-40 lead into the break as Stevenson emphatically rejected a shot by Olivet's Zach Walker as time expired.

Carthage built on their lead out of the intermission with a three-point play by Myles Olsen and a Brad Kruse layup in transition gave the Red Men a 50-40 lead less than 30-seconds into the half.

Trailing 66-55, the Comets used a 7-0 run to cut the Carthage lead to four at 66-62.  However the Red Men would answer with a barrage of three-balls, going 9-14 in the second half.  Mike Kjeldsen would bury two of the Red Men's second half three's, his second pushing the Carthage lead to seven which the Red Men would never relinquish.

Strong defense and effective free-throw shooting down the stretch would push the lead to as many as 15 late in the game for the Red Men.

Kozil and Kedrowski added nine and five assists respectively for the Red Men who had 20 assists in the game on their 30 made field goals.

Olivet's Lee Gardner led all scorers and kept the Comets in the game late with 33 points and nine rebounds.

The Red Men return to action following the Thanksgiving holiday when Carthage heads to Chicago for a 7:00 p.m. game with the Illinois Institute of Technology (0-5) a week from today on Tuesday, December 1st.
