CHESTERTON, Ind. – The Carthage College women's swimming and diving team was back in the pool Sunday at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Triangular featuring Carthage, Rose-Hulman and Albion College.
Carthage's
Maddy Hoover,
Liz Olson,
Zoe Rodriguez each won an individual event, while Hannah Pearson brought back two wins from the event.
Junior
Maddy Hoover won the 50 yard freestyle for the second time this season, Sunday with a time of 25.78 seconds to win by more than two-tenths of a second. Behind Hoover teammate
Kailin Potter finished third with a time of 26.11.
Liz Olson won 200 breaststroke by more than two-and-one-half seconds with a time of 2:38.01.
Like Hoover,
Zoe Rodriguez continued her stellar start to the season by winning the one-meter diving competition with a final score of 232.71.
After finishing second in two events Friday at Lake Forest, Hannah Pearson got her revenge by winning the 1000 and 500 yard freestyles. In her first race of the day, Pearson dominated the 1000 free in 11:27.65 to finish ahead of the second place finisher by over 12 seconds. Then, in the 200 free, Pearson edged out Albion's Mary Noble at the way by two-tenths of a second for the win.
Hannah Miles,
Esmeralda Perez and
Hannah Skendziel finished second for the Lady Reds in the 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle respectively. Additionally, Miles, Perez, Hoover and
Kate Hugo took second in the 200 medley relay.
Other notable finishers for Carthage included Hugo in the 100 and 200 backstroke, Perez in the 200 butterfly, Potter in the 100 free, Olson in the 200 IM and the team of Hoover, Skendziel, Perez and Potter in the 400 free relay; Each of whom finished third in their respective events.
The swimming and diving programs get back on the road next weekend for the two-day Calvin Invitational hosted by Calvin College at the Venema Aquatics Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, November 6th and 7th.
