SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – The Carthage College women's basketball team improved to 2-0 in the young 2015-16 season with a 55-45 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University to claim the Lakeland Tip-Off Tournament championship Saturday afternoon at Lakeland's Woltzen Gymnasium.

The 2-0 start is the Lady Reds' first since the 2011-12 season in which Carthage opened the season with four-straight wins.

Sophomore guard
Morgan Harris was unstoppable for the Lady Reds recording a career-high 24 points and going 12-of-15 from the free throw line. Harris also added a career-high in rebounds with ten for her first ever double-double performance.  Her team-high six assists were also the second most in her career.

Bailey Gilbert was the only other Lady Red to score in double-figures with 12 points in the game, while
Morgan Vukovich and
Gracie Sanchez added seven and eight rebounds respectively.

After falling behind and trailing throughout most of the first quarter, the Lady Reds closed the first on a 7-2 run to take a three-point lead into the second quarter.Â

Carthage never relinquished the lead from there, pushing it to as many as 13 in the second quarter and a game-high of 14 before the end of the third quarter.

Nebraska Wesleyan made a comeback in the fourth quarter, cutting the Carthage lead to six on two different occasions. However, Carthage went six-of-seven from the charity stripe in the final four minutes to secure the win.
Following the championship game, Carthage's
Bailey Gilbert and
Morgan Harris were named to the all-tournament team with Harris being named the tournament's most valuable player.

The Lady Reds return to Tarble Arena for their home opener Wedneday, November 18th when Carthage hosts Loras College at 6:00 p.m.
