KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team (16-3, 1-1 CCIW), ranked in No. 11 in the Oct. 6th AVCA Poll, took on North Central College (14-8, 1-1 CCIW) on Tuesday, Oct. 6th at Tarble Arena on the campus of Carthage College.

The Lady Reds showed their power and determination immediately in the first set. With the score tied 1-1 in the first set, Carthage went on a four-point run with kills by Jamie Dickinson and Stephanie Korbakes to take a 5-1 lead. From this point, the Lady Reds would keep the lead by at least a four-point margin throughout the remainder of the set.  A kill by Stefanie Romanowski on a ball from from Karen Chin would secure the 25-17 win to make the score 1-0.

The Cardinals stuck first in the second set with kills from Anna Billman and Julie Laugel. Emily Heuermann would respond with a kill for the Lady Reds, making the score 1-2. After a service error by Chin, Heuermann would earn another kill for Carthage. A few points of back-and-forth scoring would occur between the two teams until a service ace by Luci Krenzke tied the game 4-4. A few rallies would tie the score at 6-6 and North Central would score two points before Bria Hailey could respond with a kill for Carthage, making the score 7-8. Carthage would come back to tie the score at 9-9 before taking the lead once again on a handling error by North Central's Jill Galovic. The Cardinals would respond with a kill by Laugel, and after an error by the Lady Reds, North Central would take the lead 11-10.

A few points of back-and-forth rally scoring would continue, with both teams taking advantage of each other's errors and recording a series of tied scores. The Cardinals would eventually take a 17-15 lead on a kill by Laugel and an error by Carthage. After a Lady Reds timeout, Hailey completed a spectacular kill to the back court to make the score 16-17. Chin would then make a fantastic dump at the net to tie the game 17-17. The Cardinals would then commit and attack error to make the score 18-17 in favor of Carthage. North Central would earn another point on a service error by the Lady Reds to tie the game again.  A service error by the Cardinals and a kill by Karen Chin would give the Lady Reds a 20-18 lead and start to provide some more momentum for the team. North Central would tie the score at 21-21 and 22-22 before taking the lead 23-22 due to an attack error by Stefanie Romanowski.

An attack error by North Central's Ashley Powers would set Carthage up for set point. Claire Vrabec would send the ball out of the back court on an attack error allowing the Lady Reds to pick up the 27-25 win, making the score 2-0.

The Lady Reds were not willing to let the Cardinals increase their lead and went on a four-point run to make the score 9-8 before North Central would be able to tie the score at 9-9, thanks to a kill by Laugel. With the score still too close for comfort, the Lady Reds would go on a five-point run to take the lead 14-9 over the Cardinals.
