BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team (26-7, 4-2 CCIW), ranked No. 14 in the Oct. 27
th AVCA Top 25 Poll, traveled to Illinois Wesleyan University on Friday, Oct. 30
th to compete in the Barker Chevrolet Classic IV.
Carthage's first match of the day occurred at 5:30 p.m. against the Falcons of Concordia University (Wis.) (16-10). The Lady Reds dominated the match, taking the win 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-11).
As a team, the Lady Reds recorded 41 kills, 65 digs, seven aces, five blocks, 38 assists and hit .264.
Emily Heuermann led the way for Carthage, completing 13 kills in the match.
Jaime Dickinson,
Karen Chin and
Mallory Parsons each earned two services aces.
Rachel Mickey completed three blocks and
Karen Chin made 34 assists. Leading the dig category for Carthage was
Luci Krenzke with 18, followed by Heuermann at 11, Parsons at 10 and Chin at 9.
The Lady Reds' second and final game of the night took place at 7:30 p.m. against Hiram College (19-9).
Carthage easily took the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-19. Hiram showed their tenacity in the third set, forcing the set to go into extra points. Carthage held on and took the third set 30-28, securing their 3-0 sweep of the Terriers (25-16, 25-19, 30-28).
Collectively the Lady Reds made 46 kills, 50 digs, four aces, five blocks, 37 assists and hit .330.
Jaime Dickinson led in Kills for Carthage, completing 13 total kills.
Emily Heuermann recorded 13 digs, followed by
Luci Krenzke with 11 and Dickinson with 10, respectively.
Karen Chin completed 34 assists in the match.
The Lady Reds continue play in the Barker Chevrolet Classic IV on Saturday, Oct. 31 in Bloomington, Ill. Their first match of the day will take place at 10 a.m. against the University of Chicago, followed by a 2 p.m. match against DePauw University.
