LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Carthage College women's swimming and diving team continued their 2015-16 season Friday, winning their first dual meet of the season at Lake Forest College's Sports and Recreation center, 136-79.
The Lady Reds took first in six of the 12 events Friday including both relays. Additionally, Carthage took the runner-up slot in 10 of the events to secure the win.
For Carthage winners of their events included
Hannah Skendziel,
Maddy Hoover,
Zoe Rodriguez and
Esmeralda Perez. Hannah Pearson,
Kailin Potter,
Liz Olson,
Kate Hugo,
Hannah Miles and Skendziel each finished second in an event as well.
In the 200-meter freestyle
Hannah Skendziel swam a 2:18.58 to top teammate
Kailin Potter by nearly two seconds.
Maddy Hoover proved to be the fastest swimmer in the pool winning the 50-meter free by three-hundredths of a second with a time of 29.12 seconds to edge Lake Forest's Emily Bowens at the wall.
On the one-meter diving boards
Zoe Rodriguez won convincingly with a score of 239.95 which was almost 80 points better than the second place finisher from Lake Forest. Rodriguez's performance was a personal best and set a new school record by six points.
Esmeralda Perez closed-out the individual wins for the Lady Reds, winning the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:10.28 ahead of runner-up teammate,
Hannah Skendziel.
The Lady Reds took first and second in both relays which went unopposed by Lake Forest. In the 200-meter medley relay
Kate Hugo,
Hannah Miles,
Esmeralda Perez and
Maddy Hoover turned in a top time of 2:11.56 for the top spot. In the 200 free relay Hoover, Perez and Hugo teamed up with
Kailin Potter to win with a time of 2:00.13. More than six seconds faster than the second place Carthage team.
The Lady Reds will head to Chesterton, Indiana Sunday, November 1st for the Rose-Hulman Triangular with Fightin' Engineers of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Albion College.
