Karen Chin sets new career assists record at Carthage with 4,670 career assists

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team (23-6, 3-1 CCIW), ranked No. 13 in the Oct. 20th AVCA Top 25 Poll, took on the North Park University Vikings (9-14, 0-5 CCIW) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20th.
 
After a slow start, the Lady Reds were able to go on a four-point run to tie the game at 5-5. The score stayed close for the remainder of the set, but Carthage was able to pull out the win 26-24 over North Park.
 
Carthage proved to be more dominant in the next two sets and controlled all aspects of the game. The Lady Reds overtook the Vikings in the next two sets and swept North park, 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-14).
 
As a team, the Lady Reds completed 48 kills, eight aces, four blocks, 40 assists, 47 digs and hit .340. In comparison, North Park finished with 26 kills, one ace, three blocks, 21 assists, 32 digs and hit .152.
 
Stephanie Korbakes made 13 kills, along with Bria Hailey who made 10 and Stefanie Romanowski who made eight. Emily Heuermann, Bria Hailey and Rachael Kisten each completed two aces. Korbakes, Heuermann and Luci Krenzke all completed 10 digs in the three-set match.
 
Karen Chin earned 33 assists in the match, setting a new career assists record for women's volleyball at Carthage College. Chin's set the new record with 4,670 total assists in her four-year career, overtaking the previous record of 4, 656 set by Drewann Pancratz.
 
The Lady Reds return home on Friday, Oct. 23rd to take on Illinois Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. in Tarble Arena.
