Women's Volleyball Goes 3-1 at the Sept. 5-6 Loras Invitational

Lady Reds Play Host to the Carthage Invitational on Friday-Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Carthage College women's volleyball team (7-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) went 3-1 at the Friday-Saturday, Sept. 5-6 Loras College Invitational at the Athletic Wellness Center in Dubuque, Iowa. 

Carthage opened tournament play on Friday, Sept. 5 with a 3-1 loss to Cornell College (4-1) and a 3-0 win over Monmouth College (3-2).  The Rams' winning set scores over the Lady Reds were 25-22, 20-25, 27-25 and 26-24, and the Lady Reds' winning scores over the Scots were 25-16, 25-10 and 25-11.  On Saturday, Sept. 6, Carthage outlasted Wartburg College (6-1), 3-2, before defeating Loras (4-4), 3-1.  The Lady Reds' winning set scores against Wartburg were 18-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-12 and 15-4, and their winning scores over Loras were 29-27, 25-14, 20-25 and 25-21.
 
In the loss to Cornell, Rachel Fields (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) collected a match-high 16 kills.  Megan Fallert (Fr., Maplewood, Minn./Roseville-Concordia Academy) had 12 kills with a .435 attack percentage and three block assists, while Emily Heuermann (Jr. Washington, Ill.) had 11 kills.  Setter Karen Chin (Jr., Mundelein, Ill.) averaged 8.6 assists per set.  In the win over Monmouth, Heuermann had 11 kills and hit .320, while Chin averaged 9.67 assists per set. 

Four Carthage players had double-figure kills against Wartburg, with Heuermann leading the way with 19 and a .271 attack percentage.  Fields had 13 kills and hit. 278, Mallory Parsons (Fr., Lake Zurich, Ill.) 12 kills and a .286 mark and Fallert 10 kills with a .421 attack percentage.  In the Loras match, Fields had a career-high 25 kills and hit .281.  Bria Hailey (Jr., Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) had 13 kills with a .522 attack percentage, Heuermann 13 kills, and Chin averaged 15.25 assists per set with a Carthage-record total of 61 over four sets.  Chin and Hannah Cahoon (Sr., Watertown, Wis.) were named to the all-tournament team.
 
The Lady Reds play host to the Carthage Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 12-13 at both Tarble Arena and the Tarble Field House.  Carthage takes on Edgewood College on Friday at 4 p.m. and Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 8 p.m.  On Saturday, the Lady Reds face St. Norbert College at Noon and Wisconsin-La Crosse at 4 p.m.
