“East Coast Classic" Next on Saturday-Sunday

9/3/2014 9:02:00 PM

Box Score The Carthage College men's soccer team (3-0-0, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) nipped Carleton College (1-1-0), 1-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.  The Red Men were ranked ninth in this weeks' National Soccer Coaches Association of America Central Region poll and Carleton ninth in the North Region poll.

Following a scoreless first period, Carthage broke the tie two minutes into the second half with a direct free-kick goal by Seamus Kaminski (Sr., Geneva, Ill.) at 46:42.  Carthage goalkeeper Jovani Mata (Fr., Chicago, Ill./Westchester-St. Joseph) picked up the shutout and collected six saves.  The Red Men out-shot the Knights, 11-8.  For head coach Steve Domin, the victory was the 200th in his 20-year career (200-141-32, 20 years).

"Tonight was a great team win," said Domin.  "I really feel the strength our program is that we don't rely on one person to help us achieve.  Mike Dombrowski really earned space and got fouled aggressively on top of the box setting up the missile Seamus delivered in the top right corner."

Carthage travels to New York this weekend to play in the "East Coast Classic."  On Saturday, Sept. 6, the Red Men meet the Stevens Institute of Technology (0-3-) in a 3 p.m., EDT contest at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J.  On Sunday, Sept. 7, Carthage journeys up the Hudson River to Westchester County to play Manhattanville College in a 1:30 p.m., EDT game at GoValiants.com Field.
