Box Score 4 The Carthage College women's volleyball team (16-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin), ranked 27th in the Sept. 23 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, ran its current winning streak to 12-straight matches by going 4-0 at the Friday-Saturday, Sept. 26-27 University of Chicago "Gargoyle Classic" at the Ratner Athletic Center in Chicago.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, Carthage swept both Kalamazoo College (6-11) and Concordia University (Ill., 3-13) by identical, 3-0 scores. The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Hornets were 25-15, 25-13 and 25-16, and their winning scores over the Cougars were 25-11, 25-16 and 25-13. Carthage's last loss was a 3-1 decision to Cornell on Sept. 5 at the Loras College Invitational.
Carthage opened tournament play on Friday, Sept. 26 with a 3-0 sweep of No. 25 Cornell College (8-4) and a 3-2 win over No. 38 Chicago (14-6) The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Rams were 25-12, 25-15 and 25-20, and their winning scores over the Maroons were 25-19, 23-25, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-8.
Emily Heuermann (Jr. Washington, Ill.) led the Lady Reds in the Cornell match with 13 kills and a .478 attack percentage and two block assists.
Rachel Fields (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) had nine kills and nine digs, while setter
Karen Chin (Jr., Mundelein, Ill.) averaged 9.67 assists per set. In the Chicago contest, Heuermann had 16 kills with three block solos and a block assist,
Mallory Parsons (Fr., Lake Zurich, Ill.) 14 kills,
Bria Hailey (Jr., Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) 12 kills with a .385 attack percentage and Fields 10 kills with 13 digs. Chin averaged 11.50 assists per set against the Maroons with 20 digs.
In the sweep of Kalamazoo, Parsons had 10 kills and hit .500 (10-2-16), while Fields had eight kills with a .571 mark (8-0-14). Chin averaged 10.0 assists per set. Heuermann had 11 kills and hot .529 in the win over Concordia (Wis.), while Chin averaged 9.33 assists per set. Chin was named to the all-tournament team, along with libero

The Lady Reds travel to Bloomington, Ill., on Wednesday, Oct. 1 to open their CCIW-schedule with a 7 p.m. match against Illinois Wesleyan University (7-8, 0-1 CCIW) at the Shirk Center.
